WHAT MIND AND BRAIN? IS IT NOT THE SAME THING?

Now-a- days I am curious about mind, creating habits, making myself better and reading SELF HELP BOOKS, listening Podcasts and following some motivational speaker.

You guys are thinking all these things you only needed when when you are depressed, feeling low, heart breaks or any other problems you are facing in your life.

But you need to understand that all you learn from all these things will help you in your LIFE JOURNEY.

If you want to change any situation, habit, thoughts or anything, first start with you.

Brain.

Brain is the organ made up of flesh and blood and like any organ of the body, it needs rest and nutrition.

The brain is an organ but the mind isn’t. The brain is the physical place where the mind resides. It is a vessel in which the electronic impulses that create thought are contained. The brain you coordinate your moves, your organism, your activities and transmit impulses.

Brain is a dynamic organ with some 100 billion neurons that release hundreds of neurotransmitters.

Discussion of brain is incomplete without Neurotransmitters:

  • These are the chemical messengers of the brain that carry thoughts back and forth from cell to cell.
  • The health of our brain depend on the proper balance of these neurotransmitters.

Here are some Key Neurotransmitters that preserve some of the important functions of the brain:

  • Acetylcholine: This is main memory carrier substance.
  • GABA: It help in clams down cells, Muscle movement and is essential part of visual system.
  • Serotonin: Acts on blood vessels, promotes sleep.
  • Dopamine: You have listened about this neurotransmitter, it influences mood and body reflexes.

With this small information about brain, now you understand that how much your brain health is important.

Mind.

The mind is who we are — the software that carries out the functions of the hardware — the brain.

Mind is a process which is largely under the control of Autonomic Nervous System(ANS).

The mind is the awareness of consciousness we know, the ability to control what we do, and know what we are doing and why. It is the ability to understand.

But you use the mind to think. You can muse at what happened, what is scheduled and what maybe will happen.

The mind is the manifestations of thought, perception, emotion, determination, memory and imagination that takes place within the brain.

Mind is often used to refer especially to the thought processes of reason.

Animal are able to interpret their environments, but not understand them. whereas human are able to understand what happens around them, even if there is not the scientific reasoning for it, and therefore adapt.

How to control your Mind?

Practice of meditation and yoga attempts to, besides self-realization, gain voluntary control over involuntary functions. During advanced stage of practicing meditation and yoga mind comes under control of meditators.

According to Sri Aurobindo a great Indian Seer, in Yoga one can isolate mind, watch its workings as under a microscope, separate every minute function of the various parts of the inner organ, every mental and moral faculty. Normally we practice concentration to meditate at sixth chakra. Sixth chakra in human anatomy corresponds to optic chiasma which is connected to hypothalamus. Autonomic nervous system is largely under hypothalamic control. Emotions are controlled by ANS.

So it can be assumed that mind associated with emotions is the function of ANS and during practice of meditation and yoga it comes under voluntary control of the practitioner. Study of emotions is very important from the point of view of clinical psychology.

V. I. Lenin wrote:”…..there has never been, no can there be, any human search for truth without ‘human emotions’ “.

We have much more to discuss, though it is not a small topic to be discussed but I have tried to give you a glimpse of it.

Hope it is helpful. Please give some claps if you liked it, it keep me motivated.
